‘Sleeping Venus’

We've become accustomed to depictions of Venus, naked, languid, gazing languidly at us head-on. Lassive and erotic. The curves of their bodies like the patterns of hills.

From the figure of Ariadne asleep, to Titian's Venus or that of Urbino, painters of the 19th and 20th centuries reappropriated these figures from Antiquity.
