« YOUR DADDY’S SHIRTS » - CAPSULE Nø1

ABOUT THE SHIRTS

Sofia and I met in high school and developed our friendship through art school, work and life experiences.
The idea of creating a portable artwork was an obvious way to merge our practices.
We named our capsule ‘Your Dad’s Shirts’ in reference to a childhood memory of mine when I used to steal my dad’s oversized shirts that seemed more comfortable only because they were his.

When we started our clothing x paintings collaboration, we wanted to work on a piece that would fit most people.
The idea of creating a shirt came spontaneously.

The paintings were made in Brussels, where we grew up and met, and were photo- graphed and worn by people in Brussels, Paris, Athens and elsewhere.

The shirts have been sewn by hands in Brussels by Sofia Saerens.
They are cut in a white, european cotton fabric and painted with textile painting by Noura Djuric. We have conceived the shape of the shirt to remind the classic men’s shirts usually worn by our dads.

We wanted it to be comfortable, therefore the cut is suited for boys, girls and eve- ryone else who can fit into an L size man shirt.
If the size doesn’t fit, get in touch with us and we’ll design one for you.

Please wash your shirt gently, by handwash inside-out or in the washing machine with a delicate program, never exceeding 30 degrees.
Iron the painted parts inside-out.

ABOUT US

SOFIA SAERENS (Born Brussels,Belgium 1999) is a Brussels-based fashion designer graduated from La Cambre,Brussels. She perceives fashion as a way to regroup her multidisciplinary works around the subject she cares about the most: Our bodies, how we present them and what they say about us. From her first internship at Ann Demeulemeester to her most recent one, at Ester Manas, added to her work as costume designer for Miet Warlop, she is constantly looking for new views on the fashion industry and the way bo- dies are treated on this context.
Her quest for change and renewal is currently leading her to Paris, where she will start a master degree in fashion design, pathway to knitwear.

NOURA DJURIC (Born Brussels,Belgium 1999) is an Athens-based painter. She draws and paints from historical and cultural art sources to represent contemporary depictions of figurative real or fantasied scenes.

Taking the body as her main medium, her portrayals tend to build a link between the sense of self, identity, intimacy, and memory. She uses literary and historical references such as the carnivalesque or 20th century portraits as well as personal experiences.
Mainly centred around the human figure, her paintings oscillate between symboles and representation. Her fantasies are full of couples making love, isolated individuals, or self-portraits. While these bodies appear nude and in solitude, they also remain in a state of ‘intranquility.’
She brings psychology, personal experiences, and political readings in her depictions to add an emotional appeal to her work.
